Join the orchestra

Rehearsals are held in Main Hall, Friends’ Meeting House, 150 Church Road, Watford, WD17 4QB on selected Wednesdays from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. Pre-concert rehearsals with the choir are held at other local venues.

Few choral societies have their own orchestra, so we are fortunate to have instrumentalists as members of our Society either sharing the choral repertoire or performing their own orchestral concerts. Depending on requirements of specific works, we hire additional players to cover all sections.

FAQs

What standard do I need to have reached to join the orchestra

Players are expected to have reached a minimum standard of Grade 8 or its equivalent. Auditions are not normally required unless there is ‘competition’ for a particular position, when players will be invited to attend a few rehearsals on a trial basis prior to the conductor deciding to whom a permanent position will be offered.

How much are the orchestra fees

Membership costs £50 per annum (£35 for under 35s) with the option of paying by instalments.

Do I need to attend rehearsals regularly?

Yes. Please let your section leader know if you are going to miss a rehearsal. If you miss too many rehearsals you may not be able to join the next concert. Please see our Terms and Conditions for details.

Will I need to buy my own music?

No. Music is included in the membership fee.
