Remembrance
Our Autumn 2016 concert will be rather special and will feature the Western Front Violin. To remember the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme we will present a programme of appropriately themed and well loved music including a hauntingly beautiful solo piece played on the the Western Front Violin which comes back to Watford on loan from the Imperial War Museum.

Handel at Watford Colosseum
Our Spring concert will feature Handel’s Alexander’s Feast. This lesser known work is full of drama and brilliantly written choruses. It describes a banquet held by Alexander the Great and his mistress Thais during which the musician Timotheus sings and plays his lyre arousing various moods in Alexander. Although it was traditional in Handel’s day to incorporate three additional concertos during the work, we will incorporate just one – his Harp Concerto Opus 4 No. 6.
Proms at the Colosseum
Watford Philharmonic brings you a fun filled summer proms concert with a varied programme of familiar music including Henry Wood’s Fantasia on British Sea Songs, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Elgar’s Sea Pictures and excerpts from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific.
Watford Philharmonic Inspired by the Sea
Our November concert included Vaughan William’s majestic A Sea Symphony, Benjamin Britten’s Four Sea Interludes from the opera Peter Grimes, and Cecilia’s McDowall’s beautiful short work, Ave Maris Stella.
