WPS Treasurer’s Note to members August 2021
After such a disappointing year last year with no live music we are looking forward to the challenges of a new season at The Grand Hall Bushey.
This is a much smaller venue than we have been used to for most of our existence and whereas the Colosseum held over 1000 as an audience, The Grand Hall will only hold an audience of about 240 and has no ticketing facilities for us to use. As a result we have had to make some difficult practical decisions and the committee on my recommendation have accepted unreserved seating ticket prices of £20 for adults and £5 for under 19 year olds for all seats, and TryBooking will collect a 15p per ticket fee at point of sale. At the same time we have suspended season tickets and membership discounts for ticket sales as they will be very difficult to administer with the TryBooking ticketing system we will be using.
While we have a reasonable cushion of reserves we must be realistic about the concert costs and the income they will generate.
Regarding membership subscriptions, I presented a series of options to the committee in July and it was agreed that we would set the membership subscriptions at the 2018-2019 levels as we are hoping to run a full four concert season with the addition of an Orchestra concert in summer 2022. We will retain the early payment discount of £6 (Choir) and £4 (Orchestra) if received before the 1st September 2021. Please note we have raised the “Junior” subscription age to 35 years from 30 years in an effort to attract younger members. The subscriptions will be:
|–||Full Membership||Early Payment Discount||Net||Instalments||U35|
|Choir||£195||£6||£189||3 at £65||£80|
|Orchestra||£80||£4||£76||2 at £40||£40|
Joining the Choir
At any time throughout the season you may come and try us out for a few weeks, after which you will be asked to take a simple voice test prior to joining and paying a subscription. Our Conductor will give you advice about the level of musical ability expected and may recommend that you take singing lessons or change to another voice part. For more details on joining the choir, please contact our Secretary for New Members firstname.lastname@example.org

Joining the Orchestra
To join the orchestra, you will need a qualification up to Grade 8 or its equivalent. For more about joining, please contact Lindsay St John Smith (contact details to follow soon). The basic annual subscription has been set at £80 for the current season (under 35 = £40). Subscriptions can be paid in a single transaction which, if paid by 1stSeptember, attracts a discount of £4.00. Alternatively, you can pay in 3 equal instalments spread across the year. In addition to scheduled rehearsals, we run occasional Sunday Workshops, open to members and non-members alike. These attract an attendance fee of £5.00 and are led by our conductor, Michael Cayton. Currently, participants are working through the complete symphonies of Schubert. For details of the next orchestral Workshop, please see the News section on the Home page.
